What transport is actually like
Arrival banks stack up in the late evening and again before dawn, which is exactly when taxi queues at Changi are longest and families with children and multiple cases are least equipped to wait. Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve each run a compressed evening peak as restaurant and party bookings converge. Orchard Road's Christmas light-up draws sustained crowds through December, which slows the approach roads on weekend evenings well beyond the usual.
How to plan it
Book arrivals as soon as the flights are ticketed rather than closer to the date — the constraint in late December is fleet availability, not price. Families arriving with a lot of luggage should choose the vehicle on capacity rather than headcount; four people with four large cases and a pram do not fit a four-seater. For visitors staying a week or more, a few days of hourly disposal spread across the trip usually beats booking each outing separately.
